Adrian Curiel (24-4-1, 5 KOs) and Sivenathi Nontshinga (12-1, 9 KOs) face each other in a crucial world championship rematch on Friday.

The two men headline a Feb. 16 Matchroom Boxing event in Oaxaca, México. DAZN will broadcast the card around the world. The IBF light flyweight title, currently held by Curiel, will be at stake. “Gatito” won the belt in stunning fashion by knocking out former titlist Nontshinga in round two just three months ago. Ahead of their clash, the two spoke at a press conference.

Adrian Curiel and Sivenathi Nontshinga Meet in Critical Rematch

Curiel: ‘We Will Go Into the Fight With That Challenger Mentality’

“It’s great to be here,” said Curiel via an interpreter at the press conference. “It’s an opportunity to defend my title. We trained as champions, but we will go into the fight with that challenger mentality. I’m delighted to defend my title on home soil and I’m looking forward to defending on Friday night.”

Nontshinga: ‘I’ve Trained So Hard’

“It feels great to be here,” said Nontshinga. “It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been working so hard and I promise to grab this opportunity with both of my hands. It’s such a great atmosphere. I’ve met such kind people. I’m looking forward to Friday.”

Big Fight Weekend Prediction

Curiel winning by knockout in the first fight came as a shock. Part of the reason is he only had four wins by stoppage up until that point. Additionally, Nontshinga was seen as a fighter with promise, making a routine title defence going into that bout. The “Special One” should be better prepared this time and not make the same mistake that saw him hit the canvas in the first fight. Big Fight Weekend predicts this bout to go the distance, with Nontshinga regaining his belt with a unanimous decision.
