Adrien Broner’s rival turns to bare-knuckle boxing eight years after upset loss put an end to his career

Adrien Broner’s trash talk got him into many rivalries, but there was one that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Adrien Broner’s showboating and loudmouthed arrogance were all part of his charm and character, but were also tools for building some intense rivalries. From his antics in the Marcos Maidana fight, which came back to bite him when he took his first loss, to when Broner, who made Gervonta Davis cry, bragged about stealing the girlfriend of an opponent after sharing the ring with him. In 2013, Broner took Paulie Malignaggi’s WBA welterweight title via split decision. Broner claimed he took Malignaggi’s girl, too, in a viral moment that will be remembered for years to come. Malignaggi fought seven times since the loss, facing the likes of Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia. He retired from boxing in 2017 after being knocked out in eight rounds by British fighter Sam Eggington, who now holds a record of 36-9.
