Allegiant Stadium Gets The Nod For Canelo Vs Crawford
picture alliance

Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs)  will defend his undisputed super middleweight championship against Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13th. The fight needed a large venue to seat what is expected to be a sold out crowd for the 65,000-seat stadium. This development isn’t much of a surprise as Allegiant Stadium was initially rumored to be the destination for the fight. Without a doubt we expect the atmosphere to be electric. Finally the venue is secured. But what was the hang up?

The biggest hang up with making the fight happen at Allegiant Stadium was UNLV. The Rebels had a scheduled date already on September 13th to play Idaho State. Importantly that has been resolved and now Canelo and Crawford are all set to participate is the stadiums first ever boxing event.

With the fight being announced that it’s going to stream on Netflix and now a venue in tack. Promotion should heat up very quickly. Allegiant Stadium is a very big venue to a event of this magnitude.

Big risk for both fighters

Canelo will be putting his undisputed super middleweight championship on the line against a fighter that has never fought past 154. Very risky for Canelo since he doesn’t gain out of beating the smaller guy. Who has been the face of boxing and who has ran out of opponents who have blockbuster potential.

Super risky for Crawford for fighting the naturally bigger man but believes that he has the skill set to beat anyone from 147-168. But is this fight a win win for Crawford regardless of the outcome? Allegiant Stadium will be displaying history regardless.
