Amanda Serrano Issues Statement Following Controversial Loss to Katie Taylor

The co-main event Friday evening between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano lived up to all expectations, delivering an intense and thrilling fight that mirrored their 2022 bout, which many had hailed as one of the greatest female boxing matches of all time.

Katie Taylor retained her belt and emerged victorious by decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 95-94 in her favor, sparking significant controversy among boxing fans. Despite Taylor's win, Amanda Serrano outstruck her by a wide margin, landing 324 of her 734 punches thrown, compared to Taylor's 217 of 529.

In the course of the fight, Taylor was penalized a point for repeated fouls, further complicating the scorecards. Serrano's higher punch output and accuracy gave her the statistical edge, but Taylor's work rate and ability to avoid significant damage played a key role in the judges’ decision. Serrano did suffer a major gash above her eye, which could have influenced the judges' perception of damage, ultimately contributing to their decision to award Taylor the win.

After taking some time to process the outcome, Serrano released a statement reflecting on the fight. Despite the loss, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity and respect for her opponent.

"Congratulations to @KatieTaylor in her decision win. Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle & you say things you shouldn’t say. I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent & these were never my intentions to Katie." 

Serrano later added, "I’m Not perfect and tho I try my hardest to be the nicest person I can be I’m human & being emotionally hurt can sometimes misguide you in what you say. I’m ok, I’m heathy a bit bruised and cut but still blessed beyond belief. We both came out with our health intact & that’s what I prayed for. Whenever our teams can agree on a Trilogy I’ll be ready. I hope you guys all enjoyed women’s boxing at its highest level"
