Are Boxing Fans Turning On Keyshawn Davis?

Keyshawn Davis has issued an apology following his backstage altercation at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, on June 7, but are boxing fans turning on him?

Davis, who was in attendance after his title defense against Edwin De Los Santos was canceled due to him missing the 135-pound weight limit, found himself in major controversy. During a post-fight interview, Nathan Albright appeared with bruising above his right eye and publicly claimed that Keyshawn and his other brother, Keon Davis, had “jumped” him in the locker room.

Albright had just beaten Keyshawn’s brother Kelvin for the latter’s first loss. Albright stated that his trainer and cutman ultimately diffused the situation. He later challenged Keyshawn to a rematch, referencing their prior fight that ended in a no-contest due to Keyshawn testing positive for marijuana. Keyshawn and Keon were subsequently removed from the venue. Keyshawn has since apologized but did say the truth will come out.

Reaction

“For these past few weeks, I’ve reflected [on] my actions. I apologise to everyone that I’ve affected. “I let my supporters down, especially the youth that looked up to me. I will set a better example. “Thanks to everyone that’s still checking up on me. And in the end, the truth will reveal itself,” Davis said

Outside of that, Keyshawn has to decide his future quickly. He is expected to move up to 140 pounds. He had been linked with an Isaac Cruz fight, who had been boxing at 140 pounds. Cruz has had three fights at 140. He secured the WBA belt at 140 by stopping Rolando Romero. However, he lost the belt in his first defense to Jose Valenzuela. Since that loss, Cruz has bounced back with a win over Angel Fierro in his last bout. If that fight does not play out, there are plenty of others who are in the wings, such as Richard Commey.

“If I’m in my top shape, he’s gonna have a long night. I’m ready. My weight is down, I’m in shape, I’m ready. I know it may not be realistic, but I would love to get two or three fights this year,” Commey said
