Artur Beterbiev ‘Not Interested’ in Fighting Canelo Alvarez

Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) is just not interested in fighting Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs).

The knockout maestro is all set to test his mettle for the undisputed light heavyweight title with showdown against the WBA champion, Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs). Meanwhile, there have been speculations about a potential fight between him and Alvarez. However, it looks like the fight might never reach fruition, especially with Beterbiev expressing his disinterest in it.

While he is currently set to face Bivol, who had previously beaten Alvarez, the obvious question arose about him facing the Guadalajaran, and his recent interview at The Stomping Ground Podcast saw Beterbiev shoot down the questions about a potential faceoff. “When Canelo has a belt in my division, then I’ll want to fight him. Even if that moment comes, I still don’t think I’d want to face him. I’m really not interested in a fight with Canelo,” he said. Beterbiev currently holds the WBC, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles. Moreover, he has also set his eyes on Bivol’s WBA title.

“Doesn’t Matter”

Meanwhile, Alvarez has previously stated that he’ll be interested in a rematch with Bivol. Notably, Alvarez had unsuccessfully fought for Bivol’s title in 2022. However, it certainly looks like even Bivol has no interest in pursuing an Alvarez payday. “I just don’t think about it at all. I have my training camp, I have Beterbiev fight, and then we will see—just talks, talks. If we need to do some fight, he doesn’t need to talk with the media. He needs to talk to Eddie Hearn,” he said in an interview with Boxing News.

Bivol further mentioned that he had waited for a rematch offer for a considerable amount. But the lack of a response from Alvarez and his team pushed him to reconsider the matchup. “We could fight, I was available a couple of years. More than one year, we were waiting [for] the offer, but we didn’t get it. Doesn’t matter,” he added. While both fighters have dismissed offers for a fight against Alvarez, it must be mentioned that the sizeable Canelo payday has certainly won over quite a few fighters in years past.
