After falling short in Riyadh back in February against Joseph Parker, Martin Bakole is optimistic that he will get a chance at a title if his results are pleasing and positive in his upcoming fights.
The Scotland-based, Democratic Republic of Congo-born boxer is set to face Efe Ajagba in May in Saudi Arabia. The boxer currently being trained by Glasgow’s Billy Nelson will be hoping to be ready this time round when he faces his Nigerian opponent, Ajagba.
Bakole stepped in for Daniel Dubois on short notice after being convinced by Turki. Bakole was not impressed as he fell to a second-round KO, but this was understandable as the boxer was not ready for the fight, and the payday was something he was not willing to pass up, as the Saudi Arabian Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia pays quite well.
Even though Bakole fell short in that contest, it has not affected his mindset in hopes of making it to the top. His fight against Eje Ajagba will be a starting point for the fighter in pursuit of excellence, and with the backing of Turki Alalshikh, all odds are in his favor.
Bakole believes he can be able to beat his opponent and is ready to take the risk if it will help him get a chance at a title. At a recent press conference, he had this to say:
“I always take a risk. I took a risk against Parker. Now I am taking a risk against Ajagba. This is what boxing is for. I will take it. After Ajagba, I think I will be back in the queue, maybe number one again in WBA. His Excellency promised me a world title fight. As soon as I beat Ajagba, I will come back again in line. I think next year I will fight for the world title,” said Bakole.
With ample time to prepare for this fight, Bakole will have to impress against Ajagba if he wishes to get back in the queue for a title challenge, and he seems quite confident in himself and ready for the May bout.
