In the build-up to the rematch against Liam Cameron, Ben Whittaker has gone through some very big and significant changes in his life, routine, and scheduled activities.
Ben Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) will be facing Liam Cameron (23-6-1, 10 KOs) over the weekend on 20th April at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham for the second time. The last time the two fighters met in Saudi Arabia, the fight ended prematurely in a disappointing draw after both fighters fell out of the ring after a flurry of punches and pushing.
The fans were utterly disappointed as they thought the match would go on, but Whittaker claimed that he was unable to continue, and the fight had to be called off. With the tie in the scorecards, the match had to be called a draw for both fighters.
Whittaker recently changed his training team and decided to move to Dublin to join former Irish world champion, Andy Lee. Whittaker also recently moved back into his religion with the help of his mum, Karen. In a press conference, Whittaker said;
“I have always been a Christian and believed in God, but because I had more time and my mum was going to church, I decided to go. I was a born-again Christian, I got baptized,” said Whittaker.
After that experience, Whittaker went ahead to try to maintain his faith.
“It was a good, emotional experience. It’s a big commitment. I was training Monday to Friday, I had Saturday and Sunday off, so I would go to church on Sunday. I was doing that ever since the fight. Even now, I am in camp in Dublin. I’m at the online church on Sunday. It keeps me grounded. You find purpose, you find your why, and you connect with people from different backgrounds. I’m still Ben Whittaker, the flashy and flamboyant person, but I am the true Ben as well. I know I don’t need to be the loudest in the room and let my boxing do the talking,” said Whittaker.
After the last round ended, this is set to be a rematch for the books. Whittaker will have the chance to prove his critics wrong if he performs in his life, and I'm certain Cameron will not make it easy for him either.
