Bill Haney confirmed that Shakur Stevenson remains the top priority for his son Devin, but Keyshawn Davis is waiting in the wings if the 144-pound catchweight fight falls apart.
The elder Haney addressed Davis directly during an appearance on the Cigar Talk Podcast, per The Ring. "If your brother don't take the fight, you're next," he told Davis. "We'll see you when we see you. You're next."
Davis, the undefeated Olympic silver medalist who was recently named No. 1 contender for Devin Haney's WBO welterweight title, last fought at 140 pounds but reportedly wants to stop cutting weight. The Ring reports he declined a vacant IBF junior welterweight title bout against Lindolfo Delgado, signaling his willingness to campaign at 147.
Stevenson holds The Ring and WBO belts at junior welterweight but has shown reluctance to jump to welterweight. Bill Haney acknowledged the WBO's mandatory rules but said the bigger fight drives his thinking. "I respect the WBO," he said. "I also believe that boxing belongs to the people. The people have made it clear they want to see Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson share the ring, and we'll do our part to see if that fight can be made. If not, Keyshawn Davis next."
No timeline has been announced for negotiations with Stevenson or a potential Davis bout. Devin Haney stands 33-0 with 15 knockouts.
