Dmitry Bivol continues to work his way back from back surgery, as the unified light heavyweight champion pushes the paces in training.

Bivol underwent surgery after his win over Artur Beterbiev last year to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion. Bivol then vacated his WBC belt rather than face his mandatory David Benavidez after which he had back surgery. Reports indicate that Bivol could eventually move up to cruiserweight, meaning it is vital he comes back from the surgery fully fit. The champion can be seen in the following clip, hitting the heavy bag, as he moves around. The footwork and shot selection show Bivol is returning to his best.

Bivol’s Training

Meanwhile, Bivol and his IBF mandatory challenger, Michael Eifert, have been granted an extension by the IBF to finalize a deal before purse bids are called. IBF officials confirmed that both camps requested a fresh seven-day extension, meaning the purse bids will not go ahead this week. Despite the delay, reports indicate that both sides remain optimistic about reaching an agreement.

The Future

Should the fight go to a purse bid, Bivol would command a 65% split as the champion, leaving Eifert with 35%. Bivol must either face Eifert next or risk being stripped. Bivol’s team views Eifert as the ideal test before pursuing a trilogy with Artur Beterbiev or a clash with David Benavidez. Bivol is ready for whoever is put in front of him.

“I’m usually not in a position of power to choose an opponent. I’m usually getting offers for opponents and saying yes … There is David Benavidez. There is Artur Beterbiev. He’s still an option. Beterbiev was the hardest fight of my life and a dangerous opponent. I think he was the most dangerous fighter in all of boxing at the time. If people want to see it for a third time, I want to show it. I don’t know what Canelo Alvarez has on his mind. A rematch against Canelo is not too interesting for my goals, but he’s still a great fighter,” Bivol stated
