Boxing Insiders Pick Hitchins Vs. Kambosos Winner – ‘The Pressure Is On’

Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr. held their final presser before their June 14 fight this weekend.

Hitchins enters into the fight as the favorite, as he is the IBF Junior Welterweight Champion. Hitchins won his first world title by defeating the Australian Liam Paro to secure the belt. The win extended his record to 19-0, with seven knockouts to his name. Hitchins knows that a win takes him closer to unifying against the likes of the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion, Teofimo Lopez, or the WBA Junior Welterweight Champion, Gary Antuanne Russell.

Meanwhile, Kambosos is aiming to become a two-weight world champion. Kambosos is the former unified lightweight champion, who moved up to 140 for his last fight. He overcame fellow Australian Jake Wyllie in a successful start to his time under Matchroom Boxing. A Kambosos win also sets up big fights against fellow Australian Liam Paro or a rematch with Teofimo Lopez. Here is how boxing insiders saw the fight playing out.

Predictions

“Hitchins is a good fighter, you know. If you watch the fight, the first four rounds, I remember coming back to the corner and Alfie said, “We’re doing this pretty comfortably.” But respect to his boxing IQ—he changed up the game and went on the back foot, on the retreat, which we knew what he—he was going to do. Um, look, yeah, I just wish him all the best, you know. I’ll back in the Aussie, and um, if he gets it done, I’d love to have an all—all-out Australian showdown,” Liam Paro

“The pressure is on Richardson to look good and grab the attention of His Excellency and all those kind of people. And if he looks good and wins in devastating fashion, I think he’ll be in a great position to land those big fights,” Eddie Hearn stated

“I wrote George Kambosos off, man, when he was fighting Teofimo Lopez. It was a case of when, not if—that’s what I was thinking. I learned to not do that again, especially when it comes to this man, ferocious George Kambosos, because he is that. But I do think, at this stage of his respective career, with some miles on the clock—alright, you know, that Loma fight was punishing—even his last fight, he took a good few shots in that fight. I think it’s Richard Hitchins’ time to come,” Gman Boxing said
