Brian Norman Jr (28-0, 22 KOs) was last seen in June, when he retained his WBO welterweight title by dishing out a fifth-round KO against Jin Sasaki. And now, he is all set to put his title on the line, once again, this time against boxing superstar Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) in November. While there are doubts about Haney’s superior ring craft potentially posing a challenge for Norman, the Georgia native has reasons to believe that he “won’t be a problem at all.”
With fight night getting closer, many have wondered how Norman would perform against Haney’s footwork. However, ‘The Assassin II’ isn’t concerned about it at all. Talking to FightHype TV, he shared his plans to demonstrate that he is a much better fighter than Haney in every way.
“His footwork won’t be a problem at all when I step into the ring. I will actually have the better feet, I will actually have the better jab, I will actually have whatever you trying to say he’s good at,” he said.
Both fighters are entering the fight with clean, unbeaten records. While Haney isn’t known as a knockout artist, should Norman be concerned about his punches? Norman doesn’t think so. In fact, he believes that even if Haney were the hardest puncher in the sport, he wouldn’t be worried because he trusts his skills enough to avoid getting hit.
“If you don’t hit the target, did it do anything at all? No. So you can have the biggest sniper, desert eagle, I got my lil’ .22 or whatever and I’m just going to keep on spotting you, ‘pop, pop, pop,’ you’re dead by the end of the day. That’s all that matters,” he said.
It seems the winner of the fight might have another match scheduled soon after. Reigning super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins expressed interest in moving up to welterweight to challenge whoever holds the WBO title.
“I’m not ducking. Like I said. I’m willing to go up to 147lbs. In my first fight, go up and challenge the winner of Devin Haney or Brian Norman Jr for the WBO world championship,” he said. In fact, he even revealed that Norman’s team was also looking to face him after the Haney fight.
“Brian Norman Jr’s dad has been bickering, saying he wants to fight me next, and in a few months, if I’m available and Brian Norman Jr is available, let’s make the fight happen,” he said. “Me and Brian Norman Jr have already boxed each other in the gym, so we are familiar with each other, so I think it would be good to do it for a world championship.”
