Callum Simpson, a super-middleweight boxer from England successfully creates a gesture as he vowed to his manager, Kevin Maree on August 3, 2024, after a failure in the British super-middleweight division the previous year. This moment could be considered a great victory not only for Simpson but for Maree Boxing as well, as they won back the title of Britain.

The Vow Made in Defeat

The story starts in 2023 after the other Maree Boxing fighter Mark Heffron lost his British super-middleweight belt to Jack Cullen in the Manchester arena. Cullen, thus knocked out Heffron in the third round using a perfect left hook that saw the boxer getting dethroned from his 14-month reign. The loss was bitter to swallow for Maree who was happy until Heffron finally emerged the winner in the Lonsdale belt after defeating Lennox Clarke.

A year later, Callum Simpson did not leave the man empty-handed and fulfilled his word. Back in October, in front of several thousands of spectators at Oakwell, Callum Simpson fought Zak Chelli. While the fight did not transform into the fight for all the marbles that some fans expected. The 6ft 2in fighter utterly outperformed his rival receiving a clear unanimous verdict on all of the judges’ scorecards. Callum Simpson enjoyed the victory and it was a night to remember for the super-middleweight champion who took home the British title back to his camp in Maree.

Maree’s Deep Connection to the Division

For Maree, the super-middleweight division holds a special place in his heart. His love for the division stems from watching legendary fighters like Steve Collins, who squared off against Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn, Maree stated;

I love Steve and I love the era of him boxing Eubank and Benn and I loved the super-middleweight division, Maree said. Then I was lucky enough to have Kenny Anderson at super-middleweight and he got the British title. That really meant the world to me that he’d got his hands on that because I’d grown up watching that division and he won. We’ve now got it back in the camp again. I do enjoy looking at that belt and seeing the names of fighters that we’ve had fighting and winning that belt. It means a lot to me so I was chuffed to bits that Callum got his hands on it.

Callum Simpson’s victory was thus a continuation of Maree’s affinity with the super-middleweight bracket. Holding the belt again and seeing the names of the fighters he’s trained makes him very proud.

More Battles on the Horizon

His victory continues to inspire Maree Boxing, even as they prepare for the next fight. He, who is always full of energy inside and outside the ring, spent a week in Spain after his win, but he couldn’t stay away from boxing.

He is very much looking forward to getting back in the ring to further his winning string. Maree talked about future bouts that may be soon staged in which he may face Liam Cameron in Yorkshire Bradley Rea in Manchester or Steed Woodall in Birmingham.

Looking forward to the match on 5 October, in which Ryszard Lewicki and Reece Farnhill are two fighters of Maree that will fight for the English title, the team can boast the victory over Callum Simpson which crowned him a champion.
