Canelo Alvarez may have won his fight on Saturday night on the scorecard, but he didn’t win over many fans with the way matters went down. He also combined to set an embarrassing record in the process.
Alvarez defeated William Scull via unanimous decision in their fight at Anb Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Alvarez retained his four super middleweight titles plus he captured Scull’s IBF super middleweight title with the victory.
The thing is, the fight was not all that entertainining. In fact, it set a CompuBox record for least punches thrown in a 12-round fight with just 445.

This was part of a bad trend from boxing matches this weekend as three of the top five fights on that list occurred this weekend. Scull got paid a lot of money to make the fight happen, and he seemed content to take his loss and just run around to avoid being hit, all while cashing a big paycheck.
Of course, the reason why the fight was so boring and why they played it so cautiously is all due to what was announced next. Following the fight, it was announced that Alvarez would be fighting Terence Crawford in September.

All parties involved better make sure that Alvarez-Crawford makes up to the fans for what the Alvarez-Scull fight lacked.
