The stage is set for the much-anticipated super middleweight title fight, as Canelo Alvarez defends his title against Terence Crawford this weekend. The bout will take place at the Allegiant Arena in Las Vegas, with fan excitement and media attention reaching unprecedented levels.

This matchup is the biggest boxing spectacle of 2025, with staggering financial figures with global interest. The superfight is widely regarded as the brainchild of Turki Alalshikh, who recently secured Alvarez with a lucrative four-fight contract.

Turki Alalshikh also played a key role in assisting UFC CEO Dana White in promoting this event as TKO Boxing’s inaugural fight. Alvarez is the biggest star of the matchup, and is expected to earn a minimum of $100 million. However, the actual figure is reportedly much higher.

During the press conference, Alvarez humorously scolded a reporter for underestimating his earnings, adding a playful moment amid the serious hype. “Why are you lowering the bag? I’m fighting for more, and you are lowering it,” said Alvarez, hinting at a bigger purse. 

Recently, White was also asked this question, and the CEO also mentioned that this caliber of fighters takes that money to show up. He has also announced a hefty fighting bonus for the night. During the presser, Alalshikh also chimed in and shared his thoughts on the payout for Alvarez.

The reported earnings make the Alvarez vs. Crawford fight one of the most financially lucrative bouts in history. According to White, it will be right below Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor and Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

For the Mexican superstar, this might be his biggest paycheck throughout his 67-fight-long boxing career. Previously, Alvarez earned approximately $100 million against William Scull, showcasing his unmatched drawing power and global boxing popularity.

His third fight with Gennady Golovkin generated around $45 million, further cementing his reputation as one of boxing’s top pay-per-view attractions. Canelo’s victory over Caleb Plant brought in about $40 million, and it was his last competition stoppage win with a known superstar.

The Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight had been discussed for years, but it only materialized a few months ago. While Alvarez is set to earn way over $100 million, Crawford is expected to take home approximately $10 million. The two-division undisputed champion discussed his earnings in a recent interview, surprising the host with his candid remarks about the fight.

If these reported figures are accurate, Alvarez will out-earn ‘Bud’ by more than ten times for this monumental fight. Crawford has stated that he was motivated by legacy and opportunity, believing personal achievement outweighs financial compensation in boxing. 

Going into the bout, Crawford is regarded as the betting underdog, yet this status does not appear to faze the American star. Recently, current light heavyweight champion David Benavidez shared his prediction for the fight, clearly putting his money on Alvarez. 

Terence Crawford is coming up three weight classes. I don’t wanna say that he doesn’t have the ability to hurt (Canelo). He obviously does, he’s technically sound and he’s a great fighter. But three weight classes is different. It’s like me going up, trying to fight, Anthony Joshua or Gypsy King. We will see, you never wanna doubt Terence Crawford but you know, there’s weight classes for a reason.

Given the weight disadvantage, Crawford has undergone a severe body transformation and has shared recent pictures with a shredded physique. The veteran believes he has the technical advantage over Alvarez and can beat the Mexican superstar via points. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the fight turns out after months of speculation.
