Former world champion Canelo Alvarez has opened up about his boxing future, saying he feels more motivated than ever to return to the ring.

It’s been over a month since Canelo’s last appearance, where he lost a wide unanimous decision to Terence Crawford in their highly anticipated undisputed super middleweight title clash.

The Mexican fighter has been out of action since then, recovering from surgery after suffering just his third career defeat. His other losses came against Dmitry Bivol and Floyd Mayweather.

Now 34 years old, Canelo was also beaten badly by Errol Spence Jr. later that year. Since then, he has been out of the public eye as he recovers from various surgeries and injuries.

Canelo Alvarez says retirement isn’t on his mind just yet

There’s also been talk of Canelo fighting in the UK for the first time, a move that would fit with his recent association with Saudi advisor Turki Alalshikh. Several options have already been mentioned as possibilities.

“20 years in, I still feel the same fire I had when I first stepped into the ring,” Canelo posted on Instagram. “Every victory and every challenge has made me who I am today. I’m deeply grateful to my family, fans and to Mexico — you’ve been my strength and my inspiration since day one.

“Everything I’ve achieved, I carry with the pride of my people,” Canelo continued. “The fight continues, and my passion is stronger than ever.”

Terence Crawford connected to Canelo Alvarez rival

Nebraska native Terence Crawford is still in the process of deciding his next move. In the meantime, he’s been linked with a number of possible bouts.

In addition to talk about title fights against a rising contender, there’s also been an offer from a former champion who lost to Canelo before Crawford’s meeting with him.
