Canelo Alvarez is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Throughout his career, the Mexican has faced superstars like Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, and more. He is a four weight world champion and has held the undisputed title twice at super middleweight.
Canelo is now set to take on Terence Crawford on September 13, putting his undisputed super middleweight title on the line. There have been rumors that Alvarez might hang up the gloves regardless of the outcome of the Crawford bout, and Eddie Hearn has previously suggested the same.
Carl Froch recently questioned Canelo on how long he plans to continue his career, and judging by the 34-year-old's answer, it doesn't seem like he plans to retire immediately. Instead, he is looking to continue until the age of around 37, as he's previously stated. Alvarez said:
I feel great. I always say like 37-year-old, I am gone from boxing. So, we'll see. But that's my idea. It's a good age, enjoy everything and do my other business.
Canelo Alvarez has achieved it all in boxing and a win against Terence Crawford would add another massive feather to his bulging cap. Canelo is also one of the biggest draws in the sport, which has enabled him to amass a massive net worth of $250 million through his fights and other ventures.
The Crawford fight could end up being the hottest ticket in boxing this year. What comes after that, we'll just need to wait and see. The boxing faithful have wanted to see Canelo take on David Benavidez in addition to having a rematch against Dmitry Bivol. Judging by his retirement answer, there might still be time for that.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners added to their minor league bullpen depth by sending a familiar face to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday. Mariners right-handed reliever Collin Snider was designated for assignment on July 30 following the club's trade acquisition of left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson. Snider cleared waivers and he was sent to Tacoma outright. Snider hasn't made an appearance for Seattle in the majors in nearly two months. He was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain June 4. He began a rehab assignment with Tacoma on July 5 and made nine appearances with the club. Snider was activated off the injured list the same day he was designated for assignment. Snider posted a 5.47 ERA with the Mariners with 24 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched across 24 appearances this year. While with the Rainiers, he had a 5.06 ERA with nine strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched. Seattle claimed Snider off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Feb. 6, 2024, and had a career resurgence with the M's in 2024. Snider had a 1.94 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 41.2 innings pitched across 42 outings with the Mariners last season. Snider will provide Seattle with crucial reliever depth in the minors for the final two months of the season. The Mariners lost right-handed reliever Trent Thornton with a torn left Achilles tendon Thursday. Snider's will join many other Tacoma relievers who have made major league appearances for Seattle this season, including Troy Taylor, Tayler Saucedo, Casey Lawrence, Jesse Hahn, Jhonathan Diaz and others.
The Washington Commanders are traveling up to New England for their first preseason game on Friday vs the Patriots, which means we get our first look at the unofficial depth chart. I want to put an emphasis on the word unofficial because this doesn't mean this is how the team will look, or how certain guys rank, but it's still a foundation to build off of. Quarterbacks The only real notable storyline to watch in the QB room is who wins the battle for QB3. Hartman has had a solid camp, but Johnson brings a veteran presence to the room. Whoever can fill in without hiccups will be the one who wins the last spot. Hartman and Johnson will get a lot of preseason reps. Wide Receiver No real surprise when you think about how HC Dan Quinn approaches the depth chart, and he makes every rookie earn their spot. Jaylin Lane will quickly shoot up the depth chart, but this is also a good sign for Luke McCaffrey. WR is another deep position with plenty of preseason snaps available. Running Back Have no fear, Croskey-Merritt truthers, he will get his chance to show what separates him from the other running backs. His listing as the fifth string actually allows us to see more snaps for the seventh-round rookie gem. Offensive Line Of course, everyone will look at the RT spot. That's exactly what I expected to see with Wylie OR Conerly Jr. being listed as the starters. I predict we could see Wylie start the season at RT with split time with Conerly Jr., similar to what they did last year with Cornelius Lucas and Brandon Coleman. I also think the depth can move around to different positions easily. Tight End No surprises here for the tight end group. I'm obviously most excited to see Ben Sinnott in his second season in the league and hopefully get a decent amount of playing time in preseason again. Defensive Line The defensive line has a lot of bodies and better quality to stop the run this season. Preseason players to watch, in my opinion, include Jean-Baptiste, Barber, and Goldman. The depth will be a close race when the season approaches. Linebackers The biggest thing that stands out for the linebacker room has to be rookie Kain Medrano, listed as a linebacker after being labeled as a tweener between linebacker and safety. This could indicate where they feel he is best right now. I'll be keeping count on Medrano's snaps in preseason. Cornerbacks You're reading that right, Quinn put a rookie as the starter already, and it's not a surprise when Trey Amos has had a flawless training camp. The depth with Igbinoghene and Jones gives the Commanders a major boost that's been missing for years. Vigers is a sleeper who can impress in the preseason. Safeties The safety room looks as expected, and Owens is listed at safety after getting some reps at linebacker. Owens is the one player who has a lot to earn in the preseason to fight for a final roster spot. Special Teams I do not doubt that Jaylin Lane will be the starting punt returner this season. I am surprised that Deebo Samuel isn't listed anywhere as a kick returner since he got a lot of starting reps there with Ekeler. Remember, this is the first unofficial depth chart for the first preseason game against the Patriots, and there will be a lot of movement as the season gets closer. This is a great foundation to build off of, though, and see how things develop after each game. Rookies like Kain Medrano and Jacory Croskey-Merrit can make a lot of noise in the preseason and shake things up.
The Washington Commanders have Super Bowl intentions for the 2025 NFL season, and OC Kliff Kingsbury believes fans will see even more from certain players in the year ahead. Kliff Kingsbury, who has head coaching experience in the NFL, returned as an offensive coordinator in 2024. He was hired as the offensive coordinator entrusted with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, and the results were sensational. With Daniels’ help, Kingsbury built one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, and the Commanders may have even more depth than many are anticipating. Kingsbury praises Luke McCaffrey for development ahead of 2025 season The Washington Commanders were electric in 2024. Jayden Daniels threw for 3,568 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, while rushing for another 891 yards and six TDs on the ground. Terry McLaurin led the team in receiving yards and touchdowns, totaling 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 scores. Beyond that, the team had a lot of contributing pass catchers, including veteran tight end Zach Ertz, and receivers Olamide Zaccheus, Noah Brown, and Dyami Brown. Zaccheus and Dyami Brown both took deals to play elsewhere in free agency, so the Commanders replenished the room with the trade for Deebo Samuel, and the additions of both veteran Michael Gallup and fourth-round rookie Jaylin Lane. However, one name that has flown under the radar as he enters his second season in the league is 2024 third-round pick Luke McCaffrey. McCaffrey, who is the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers running back and NFL star Christian McCaffrey, is hoping to make a bigger impression in 2025. Kliff Kingsbury talked about his development this week, saying: “Luke’s come a long way from last year this time to now. Just the confidence, we’re playing him outside a lot for necessity … he’s definitely night and day difference from what he was last year this time.” Kingsbury also talked about the ‘worst case scenario’ with Terry McLaurin, if he did get hurt or wasn’t with the team for any reason in 2025. He said they were navigating who would play on the outside, and that’s one of the reasons they’ve been getting McCaffrey reps out there during training camp. Terry McLaurin’s trade request is allowing younger receivers reps with starting offense Terry McLaurin is a true professional, and when his contract situation finally gets resolved there is very little doubt that he’ll return to form immediately. That said, in his absence there are players like Luke McCaffrey who are seeing a lot more reps. Kingsbury talked through the potential personnel groups without McLaurin on the field, and it sounds like McCaffrey is proving he can be trusted as an X receiver, as well as playing out of the slot. In 2024, the third-round pick ran 76% of his reps out of the slot, but if the team knows they can also count on him at the X, he may see more playing time in 2025. McCaffrey finished his rookie season with 18 catches for 168 yards and will now be competing for reps this season with rookie Jaylin Lane and other depth pieces within the Commanders’ offense.
Luis Torrens, a backup catcher and a former member of the Seattle Mariners, took to the mound on Sunday afternoon and became a part of some interesting New York Mets history. Per SNY Mets: Luis Torrens is the 42nd different player to pitch for the Mets this season, which is a new franchise record for the most players to pitch for the team in a season. Torrens entered the game as the Mets were blown out by the San Francisco Giants. New York has dealt with a high number of injuries this season, which has caused them to use so many pitchers. Of course, Seattle Mariners fans have seen Torrens pitch before. He has four career appearances, including famously winning a game in 2022. The Mariners had already clinched a playoff spot at the end of that season and did not want to waste any pitchers on the eves of the playoffs, so Torrens pitched in extra-innings against the Detroit Tigers. Now 29-years-old, Torrens is an eight-year veteran of the San Diego Padres, Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Mets. He's been with the Mariners on two separate occasions, playing with them from 2020-2022 and then again in a portion of 2023. Lifetime, he's a .225 hitter with 24 home runs. His best year, by far, was in 2021 when he hit 15 homers for the Mariners and drove in 47. The Mariners missed the playoffs on the final day of the season that year. This season, Torrens is hitting .217 for New York. The Mariners will get an opportunity to see Torrens in person in just a few weeks: They'll play the Mets in a three-game series from Aug. 15-17.
