Canelo Alvarez became the Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion for a second time, beating William Scull via a unanimous decision: 115-113, 116-112 and 119-109.
Canelo added Scull’s IBF belt in a rather dull fight. The first few rounds were devoid of much action. Scull was boxing on the outside, using his lateral movement, while Canelo tried to close the gap. Canelo found success with a right hand in the second as he backed up Scull. The latter responded with a crisp right hand in the third before moving out of harm’s way. Canelo became somewhat frustrated as Scull did not want to engage.
The Mexican landed strong body shots in the sixth as Scull moved around once again. A left hook to the body in the eighth hurt Scull. However, Alvarez could not pin his man down to add further punishment. Kieran McCann, the referee, had to intervene to tell both boxers to be more active. The fight ended without much action, as Canelo won an easy decision. Canelo then faced off against Terence Crawford, as that fight will happen next in September.

“That’s why I don’t like to fight those kinds of guys, they just come to survive. September [against Crawford] will be another kind of fight. For me, [Scull] was a boring fight… I hate those kinds of fights. “But it’s OK, we won. I am two-times undisputed champion and I’m grateful to fight in Saudi Arabia, and thank you, everyone, for coming [to watch] me, my family, my friends, everybody. Like I always say, viva Mexico cabrones. I’m a champion, I’m a professional, so that’s no excuse. He’s [Crawford] a great fighter and I look forward to sharing the ring with these kinds of fighters,” Canelo
“In September, I’m going to show the world what greatness looks like. [Canelo] did what he had to do to get the job done with what was put in front of him,” Crawford
