Las Vegas, Nevada — Saturday night’s superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford didn’t just deliver history inside the ropes it also filled the stands on a scale rarely seen in American boxing. Promoters announced a crowd of 70,482 at Allegiant Stadium, marking the second-highest announced attendance for an indoor boxing event in U.S. history.

The benchmark remains Canelo’s own 2021 showdown against Billy Joe Saunders at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. That night drew an official total of 67,054 fans through the turnstiles. Though Matchroom Boxing announced the figure as 73,126, a number that included staff and credentialed personnel.

That Texas crowd surpassed the iconic Muhammad Ali vs. Leon Spinks II rematch at the Louisiana Superdome in 1978, which had an announced attendance of 63,352.

By comparison, Alvarez-Crawford’s 70,482 fell short of the announced Saunders figure, but still positioned the event as the second-largest reported indoor crowd in U.S. boxing history and the biggest boxing crowd ever inside Las Vegas.

A First for Allegiant Stadium

The bout marked the first-ever boxing event inside Allegiant, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. The venue opened in 2020 and has since hosted Super Bowls, major concerts, and college football, but Saturday night was its debut as a boxing cathedral.

For Alvarez, it was a landmark as well. Though he has headlined 10 times at T-Mobile Arena and eight times at MGM Grand Garden Arena. This was his first Las Vegas stadium fight. Las Vegas has been very good to Canelo.
