Canelo Vs. Berlanga Predictions – ‘It’s A Big Task’
Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images

Canelo Alvarez boxed Edgar Berlanga on September 14, as boxing insiders gave their predictions.

Canelo is the massive favorite as he defends his WBA, WBC and WBO belts. Since his loss to Dmitry Bivol, Canelo has racked up wins against GGG, John Ryder, Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia. There is a perception that Canelo is slowing down. Despite dropping Charlo and Munguia, he failed to stop them.

Berlanga is a hungry fighter who has his first world title shot. He is 22-0, with 17 knockouts, as he faces the toughest task of his career. Only Floyd Mayweather and Bivol have beaten Canelo out of his 65 fights. A win makes Berlanga a PPV star and secures him a lucrative rematch, at the very least.

Predictions

“Edgar’s a good fighter. He’s undefeated. He punches very hard, he’s got plenty of balls, and he’ll come to fight. And, you know, the Jaime Munguia bout against Canelo was a good fight. And I think maybe Edgar can go one better than Jaime. You know, it’s a big task to beat Canelo Alvarez, but there’s another fighter that’s getting on, you know, and sooner or later, does he take him easy? Does he take him lightly? You know, is he getting a little bit old? You know, as I said, Edgar’s punch is very, very hard, and it’s a shot of a lifetime,” Eddie Hearn

“Canelo-Berlanga is gonna be an amazing fight, you know. Like I said, Nothing is impossible, just exactly like how I beat Anthony Joshua, you never know what could happen. You know, as long as you have faith and you believe in yourself, anything is possible,” Andy Ruiz Jr.

“Berlanga was smashing everybody up and everything, and then he stepped up a level, and…he kind of like ran out of juice. Good prospect. Good, yeah, good prospects. But in terms of does he beat Canelo? I’ll see that as a huge shock, a huge shock,” Dave Coldwell

“Honestly, I think Canelo will win, but Berlanga is going to go out there and give him a great fight, a better fight than people are expecting. So just pay for the PPV and tune in for a great fight,” Jesse Rodriguez

Further Predictions

“I think it’s an easy fight. Berlanga is, you know, I mean, I think he’s, he’s very limited. He’s, he’s okay, but he’s very limited. You talk about Canelo. Man, Canelo is, I mean, you for me, you always gotta look at the mindset. Man, look who Canelo fought. You know, he fought GGG three times. He fought Bivol. He fought Lara. Canelo fought James Kirkland, everybody…He fought Floyd Mayweather. He fought Cotto. I mean, now you talk about Edgar Berlanga, come on, man, it’s, it’s like, it’s a big difference,” Regis Prograis

“Listen, I think I did Berlanga is a talented kid who’s getting better. He’s improved recently. I think he still needs more seasoning, but I see an improvement in him. He is a talented kid. I compare it to Munguia, where Munguia, even though he had a lot more fights, Munguia hadn’t had those kind of fights on that stage, you know, at that level to be ready for Canelo. He was still a few fights short. He still needed more seasoning. Even though he had a lot of fights, he still needed more…I see Berlanga in the same way that he still needs more. He’s not quite ready, not quite ready, but a talented kid,” Teddy Atlas
