Carl Froch has a well-decorated boxing career. During his prime, he took on some formidable boxers, among them George Groves.
The contest that rekindled memories among fans was their showdown at Wembley Stadium in 2014, where Froch knocked out Groves in remarkable fashion before hanging up his gloves from boxing.
Carl Froch thrashed George Groves in their first two clashes. However, the second bout was the most controversial. In the first encounter, Froch retained his WBA as well as IBF super-middleweight belts with a ninth-round stoppage. This came even as Groves was taking the lead on all judges' tallies. The fight, billed as the Battle of Britain, was a professional boxing clash contested on 23 November 2013 at the Manchester Arena. ‘The Cobra, the defending unified World Boxing Association (WBA) (Regular version) as well as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-middleweight titlist, out-smarted George Groves via technical knockout in the ninth round; however, the ending was mired in controversy.
The second contest, staged at Wembley Stadium, was a win for ‘The Cobra’, as he knocked out his opponent in the eighth round. Froch closed the chapter on his long and storied boxing career by providing the perfect knockout.
An enormous amount of animosity developed between the two fighters in the build-up, which amounted to the match being highly expected by boxing fans.
Elsewhere, in a recent interview, former world champion Carl Froch dared his archrival George Groves, calling him out for a trilogy.
“But we wouldn't sell out a Wembley area, maybe I'm selling myself short, maybe we’d sell out Blackpool pier,” said Carl Froch in a previous interview with CoinPoker.
