Top Rank boxing have added a young prospect dubbed “champion in the making” Perla Bazaldua to their camp. She is only the third female boxer to be signed by Top Rank and joins the likes of Mikaela Mayer and Seniesa Estrada.
With only one fight in her professional career, Perla joined the scene with an impressive and eye-catching first round stoppage against her opponent Mollie Backowski last December in Santa Ynez, making it (1-0, 1KO) to start her professional career record.
At the age of just 19 years old, Perla has enjoyed and had an impressive amateur career being a 15-time national amateur champion. The LA native also won a gold medal at the 2023 Youth Brandenburg Cup in Germany to add to her accolades.
Bazaldua will be making her debut under the management of Top Rank on Saturday May 10th as part of the Emanuel Navarrete - Charly Suarez card in San Diego. Her management is currently looking for a suitable opponent for her with just about a month to the date.
The youngster will be co-managed by George Ruiz, who has been guiding Mayer throughout her career and her head trainer/co-manager Manny Robles who has also had an impressive run working with the likes of Andy Ruiz Jr., Oscar Valdez, Serhii Bohachuk and the reigning WBO featherweight world champion Rafael Espinoza.
Though still young, Bazaldua is not new to boxing as she started boxing at early age of just 9 years. Bazaldua comes from a family of boxers. Her older brother, Criztec, is currently a 6-0 junior welterweight prospect. Their father, Crispin, has been very instrumental in their growth as young boxers.
When asked about how she feels on joining top rank at a press conference, Bazaldua had this to say.
“I’m honoured to be part of Top Rank family and can’t wait to get started. I want to inspire young women, especially where I come from in South Central Los Angeles. I want to show young women that if you stay disciplined and true to yourself, dreams do come true,” said Bazaldua.
