Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn are set to once again lock horns on November 15th as the rivals meet for the second time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Eubank Jr. defeated Benn when the pair met in April, with a rematch originally understood to be taking place in September.
However, it has now been confirmed that their rematch will take place two months later in November, despite Benn being welcomed by other opponents.
When the September bout fell through, many began to question whether or not Eubank Jr. would step in the ring again. However, his manager has addressed any rumours regarding retirement.
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Napper Amoakoh, manager of Eubank Jr. was asked about the upcoming fight between his fighter and Benn.
Napper said that ‘miscommunications’ were the reason that the fight was pushed back from the September date, as opposed to Eubank Jr. not being ready.
The manager added, “I’m just happy that Conor agreed to the later date. Chris is ready to go and let’s give the fans what they want.”
When asked if there were any discussions regarding retirement, Napper was quick to shut down the rumors, targeting Eddie Hearn in the process.
“Everyone needs to remember that Eddie Hearn is one of the greatest promoters England’s ever produced, but he’s not the spokesperson of Chris Eubank Jr. So the retirement talks need to stop.”
The manager added, “It has to come from myself, has to come from Junior, or anyone in and around our team.”
In terms of whether or not the rematch with Benn is the last fight of Eubank Jr.’s career, Napper seemingly believes it is not. “After Conor Benn, we’re moving on to another big fight.”
When asked about what opponents could be in the pipeline for Eubank Jr. after meeting Benn, Napper addressed fights with two potential opponents.
“Canelo is the big one next,” Napper said. However, the manager said that Canelo Alvarez’s meeting with Terence Crawford could be a problem.
Giving credit to the coach of Crawford, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, Napper feels Alvarez may not defeat ‘Bud’, jeopardizing a meeting with Eubank Jr.
Napper also responded to a potential meeting with former Alvarez opponent Billy Joe Saunders. However, the manager said, “Billy needs time to lose all that weight around his stomach.”
