Confusion is the word that best describes the upcoming bout between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach.

Davis' post on Instagram stories on Monday claiming the fight scheduled for March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is "canceled" has thrown everything into a big mess with nobody sure about what will happen next.

“The fight is (expletive) canceled,” the undefeated WBA lightweight champion (30-0, 28 KOs) on Instagram before deleting the post hours later.

Roach, the reigning WBA super featherweight champion, responded to Davis statement, denying the claim and asserting that he is still preparing for the highly anticipated matchup.

“The (expletive) ya keep asking me for? He said that (expletive) not me. I’m locked in, ain’t (expletive) changed. March 1st Brooklyn #ANDNEW” Roach posted on an Instagram story.

This uncertainty comes after the fight was already rescheduled from December 14 due to a scheduling conflict.

Promoters have yet to issue an official statement, although tickets remain available for purchase a few hours after both fighters released their statements about the upcoming bout.

Davis, widely regarded as one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers, is coming off an eighth-round knockout victory over Frank Martin earlier this year. “Tank” previously stopped Ryan Garcia with a body shot in April 2023.

The 30-year-old Davis was elevated to WBA lightweight champion after Devin Haney vacated the title in 2023.

Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs), earned his super featherweight title with a split-decision win over Hector Luis Garcia in 2023, has been granted special permission to challenge Davis while retaining his 130-pound belt.

His last fight was a dominant victory over Feargal McCrory in June. This bout presents Roach with the opportunity to become a two-division champion.

For now, March 1 in Brooklyn remains circled on the boxing calendar with no official word about Davis' proclaimed cancelation.
