Cruz Faces Bravo In September WBC Interim Showdown

Isaac Cruz will face Nestor Bravo on September 19th at San Diego's Pechanga Arena in a WBC interim title fight, Bad Left Hook reports. Jesus Ramos Jr meets Meiirim Nursultanov in a second interim bout on the DAZN card.

Cruz, now training under Eddy Reynoso, has gone 2-0-1 since his March 2024 stoppage of Rolly Romero. The five-foot-four Mexican dominated Omar Salcido before battling to a draw with Lamont Roach Jr in his most recent outing. His 28-3-2 ledger includes 18 knockouts.

Bravo arrives on a rebound after being stopped by Xolisani Ndongeni. The Puerto Rican bounced back with a January stoppage of Pedro Campa but carries a 24-1 record that suggests a significant step up against the battle-tested Cruz. "I'm facing a tough, aggressive fighter who comes forward and likes to engage," Bravo said, per Bad Left Hook. "But I have all the skills and versatility to win by any means necessary."

Ramos has settled at middleweight after beating Shane Mosley in his last fight. Nursultanov holds a 20-0 record and has been the WBC mandatory challenger for years, though he will be fighting for an interim strap instead. The Kazakh has not fought since 2023.

The Pechanga Arena card marks Cruz's return to Southern California and his continued push at super lightweight under Reynoso's guidance. First bell is set for evening hours on September 19th.
