It’s fight week, and one of the most stacked fight cards of 2025 takes place on Saturday, November 22, live on DAZN PPV. WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) will defend his title against top contender Anthony Yarde (27-3, 24 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round bout. With this exciting matchup headlining a card filled with great fights, all that remains to be seen is who will leave Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the WBC light heavyweight title.
The 28-year-old Benavidez from Phoenix, AZ, aims to live up to the nickname of “The Mexican Monster” every time he steps into the ring. He’s faced the biggest challenges at 168 pounds besides Canelo Alvarez (who has turned down that fight in the past) and has made them look ordinary. The latest example was the February fight against David Morrell. Benavidez didn’t stop Morrell, but he did dominate him over 12 rounds. With the Dmitry Bivol fight not happening due to an injury, Benavidez was left to face a top contender, Yarde.
So how does Benavidez beat Yarde? Early on, Benavidez needs to pump that left jab since Yarde will be moving left to right, trying to jump in with combinations. The jab will force Yarde to reset each time if he is continually getting hit with it. As the fight progresses, Yarde tends to drop his left hand to waist level, which should open up the overhand right from Benavidez. Lastly, as Yarde tires out, he tends to stay more in the pocket but keeps his hands low. This could be an opportunity for Benavidez to land one of those lightning-fast combination attacks and stop Yarde late in the fight.
This may be the last title shot for 34-year-old Yarde from London, U.S., as the light heavyweight division continues to grow in talent. His previous major fight for the title was against former unified light heavyweight champ Artur Beterbiev in January 2023, which ended with Yarde being stopped in the eighth round. Since then, Yarde has won four straight fights, leading to this title opportunity against Benavidez. Yarde must be perfect on Saturday night to beat Benavidez, who will keep throwing punches nonstop throughout the fight.
How does Yarde beat Benavidez? Yarde will have to fight fire with fire, which is extremely risky but probably the only way he can hope to land a big shot. In other words, Yarde will have to throw punches with Benavidez, which could land something significant. The only question is whether Yarde has the power to earn Benavidez’s respect. Also, Yarde’s stamina needs to be at its best because it only takes a small window of vulnerability for Benavidez to capitalize; conditioning will be key for Yarde in this fight. Overall, Yarde needs a lot to go his way on Saturday night, which might be too much to expect from a ten-year veteran.
Although Yarde will put up a good fight on Saturday night, he won’t be able to withstand the onslaught from Benavidez late in the fight. Benavidez will score a TKO victory between rounds 8 and 10.
