As revealed by Brunch Boxing and Dan Rafael at Fight Freaks Unite, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and former WBC challenger Derek Chisora are finalising a deal to fight in London in April. “The Bronze Bomber” had been linked to a fight with Oleksandr Usyk, but it now appears the Alabama native is close to facing Chisora.

Recent reports had suggested that Wilder would face the lineal and unified heavyweight champion, Usyk. That fight had not been made despite both sides expressing an interest, but it now appears “The Bronze Bomber” will be Chisora’s much-discussed 50th opponent.

As revealed by Rafael, Wilder’s manager, Shelly Finkel, told Fight Freaks Unite they were weighing up a fight against Usyk, but did mention Chisora was in the mix.

With Wilder vs Chisora looking likely, it remains to be seen what this means for Usyk’s next bout, and who he might face.

Wilder and Chisora’s career’s recapped

Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs), whose right hand made him feared throughout the heavyweight division, which saw him eviscerate many opponents. His most memorable fights were undoubtedly the trilogy with Tyson Fury, which seemed to take a lot from both. “The Bronze Bomber” suffered back-to-back defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang before undergoing shoulder surgery. He returned this past June, stopping Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round.

Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) is loved by the British public and has won his last three fights, giving him a late-career renaissance. The wins came against Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce, and, most recently, Otto Wallin.

Queensberry Promotions were seemingly on the verge of announcing Dillian Whyte vs Derek Chisora III, but that now seems to be done, due to Chisora’s dissatisfaction with the proposed finances.
