Ex-WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder will star in and join the production team for ‘Moses the Black,’ with the movie set for U.S release on January 30, 2026.
The news marks his first substantial on-camera appearance in seven years. While fans briefly saw him in the trailer for his 2023 ‘Day of Reckoning’ bout with Joseph Parker, and small TV roles in 2019 (such as Magnum P.I. and Billions), this new venture sees Wilder taking on a dual role: both acting and producing the feature film.
The film is written and directed by Yelena Popovic, the movie draws its inspiration from the historical repentance story of an Egyptian saint from the 4th century. It has been dubbed as a modern-day gangster drama set in Chicago. The cast includes Omar Epps, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Ahmad Nicholas Ferguson. Adding to the film’s cast is rapper 50 Cent (Executive Producer), as well as artists Wiz Khalifa and Quavo. This move comes at a pivotal time for the hard-hitting boxer. Wilder recently confirmed that negotiations are currently in progress for a showdown against Unified Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“I’m excited to be a part of Moses the Black as an executive producer. Collaborating with great talent ensures we’re bringing authentic and compelling stories to the screen. Yelena’s vision for this film is sure to create a hit,” 50 Cent
“Yelena Popovic is an immensely impactful storyteller, and I’m looking forward to bringing “Moses the Black” to life alongside this incredibly talented group of artists. I’m excited to be working with Yelena and alongside Omar, Quavo and Chukwudi on Moses The Black. As an actor and executive producer on the project, I can’t wait to start shooting and for all my fans to see the film!” Khalifa
“Moses the Black is an action-packed drama that was made to be seen on the big screen. Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to partner again with Simeon Entertainment and bring this heart-pounding story with a star-studded cast to audiences nationwide,” Ray Nutt (Chief Executive Officer for Fathom Entertainment)
