Derek Chisora is reportedly in discussions to face Jarrell Miller in his farewell fight, scheduled for December 13 in Manchester, England.

The news of the potential matchup comes after rival heavyweight Zhilei Zhang claimed he had already agreed to terms for the final contest, suggesting the decision now rests with Chisora. Chisora is aiming to end his career on a high note, having won four of his last five bouts. He had called out the likes of Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois. Joshua is recovering from elbow surgery, with suggestions he will not box this year.

Meanwhile, Usyk is also recovering from a back injury, while Dubois is expected to face Frank Sanchez in an IBF Heavyweight Title Eliminator. Chisora’s most recent victory was a decision over Otto Wallin in February. Meanwhile, Miller has been inactive since fighting Andy Ruiz Jr. to a majority draw in August 2024. Before that, Miller suffered a TKO loss to Daniel Dubois in December 2023, while his last win was a Lucas Browne fight in March 2023.

The Approach

Chisora’s strategy will be one of educated pressure, aiming to turn the bout into a brawl where his powerful shots can negate Jarrell Miller’s reach and volume advantage. Chisora cannot afford to fight at mid-range, as Miller’s high-volume jab would pick him apart. Instead, “Del Boy” must use a high guard and subtle head movement to move inside to cut off the ring. His offensive tactic will be relentless body work, throwing hooks and uppercuts to the midsection early to sap the stamina of the much larger Miller.

Miller’s key to victory lies in keeping the fight at a distance where he can establish a high-output jab and throw busy, multi-punch combinations. Miller, who often weighs well over 300 pounds, possesses a deceptively fast work rate for his size, which he must use to discourage Chisora from coming forward. He should employ lateral movement and subtle pivots rather than allowing himself to be backed up straight onto the ropes. He should utilize his massive frame to smother Chisora and lean on him, tiring out the older fighter in the clinch.
