Devin Haney has cast doubt over a potential clash with Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero after negotiations took a turn.
The two fighters had previously been in advanced talks for a high-profile welterweight bout.
Haney, the current WBO champion, was expected to face Romero, the current WBA welterweight champion.
However, recent comments suggest the fight is now far from being finalised.
Haney publicly addressed the situation on X, making clear his frustration with Romero’s stance during talks.
He wrote: “Rolly delusional acting like he is some kind of draw but can’t sell out a ballroom. That’s why the fight hasn’t been made yet, the money isn’t right. I’m looking at other options he can go fight his mandatory since he’s such a draw.”
There was some optimism for the fight initially, but financial disagreements now appear to be the main obstacle, with Haney suggesting expectations on Romero’s side have complicated the deal.

His comments indicate a shift in focus, as he looks beyond a fight that once seemed close.
Haney’s attention could now turn toward other opponents, with Keyshawn Davis emerging as a possible alternative.
Davis recently called out Haney, prompting a sharp response from the champion, who labelled him ‘a fraud’.
In the context, the stalled Romero negotiations could reopen the door to new discussions.
Davis holds an unbeaten 14-0 record and represents a rising name in the division.
If talks with Romero remain unresolved, Haney may be forced to consider fresh options.
