Boxing is back at the Dignity Health Sports Park, famously known as the “War Grounds” in Carson, CA, where boxing wars are known to occur. Matchroom & DAZN will host a card headlined by super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco (21-0, 17 KOs) going up against Maciej Sulecki (32-2, 12 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round bout. This will be a battle of the young contender on the rise against the older veteran who has never been stopped. Who will prevail?

When you say the name Pacheco to hardcore boxing fans, they’ll likely to respond that he’s a fighter who has potential but lacks the quality opponents to know for sure if he is ready for the big names. The other part is that fans still see him as this up-and-coming fighter, but in reality, he’s been a pro for six years and has had 21 fights. Eddie Hearn has done a great job in slowly building him up, and now Pacheco has arrived at the moment where its “show and prove” in front of hardcore fight fans at one of boxing’s most iconic venues against a fighter who has faced world-class opposition and has never been stopped. The 23-year-old Pacheco from Los Angeles, CA, has a tough test, and if he passes with flying colors, he can make his next fight a big one.
How does Pacheco win? He can’t afford to get off to the slow start he did in April against Shawn McCalman. Pacheco must establish dominance from the beginning and break down Sulecki’s body. He cannot hesitate and must use his left jab to work his way inside. Sulecki is 35 and has been through the wringer with high-level fighters, so not allowing him to get going will be critical for Pacheco. The late fight stoppage could be there for Pacheco if he dominates early and concentrates on the body.

Boxing doesn’t give away any gold watches for retirement. When it’s through with you, it will let you know the hard way. The 35-year-old Sulecki from Warsaw, Poland, may have arrived at that moment if he doesn’t look good against Pacheco. He’s had opportunities against Demetrius Andrade and Daniel Jacobs but came up short in both fights. Now, he plays the gatekeeper to a young gunn on the way up in a venue where wars are known to take place. This seems appropriate as a last stand for a fighter closer to retirement than his prime.
Sulecki is a big underdog (+1000) and to beat Pacheco, he will need to turn in the best performance he can put together at this stage of his career. He has to demand respect from the moment the bell rings to begin the fight. Sulecki has to push Pacheco around and make him fight on his back foot. Sulecki has to make things uncomfortable for Pacheco and hold him on the inside if things get rough. In other words, Sulecki needs to act like the veteran he is and make things hard for Pacheco, forcing the young contender to think more than he ever has in previous fights. If Sulecki can do this, he can potentially squeeze out a decision victory.
Pacheco is on the rise but Sulecki has never been stopped. This isn’t the fight where any of that changes and Pacheco will go on to earn a unanimous decision.
Per DraftKings SportsBook, Diego Pacheco is the favorite at -1800, and Maciej Sulecki is the underdog at +1000.
Diego Pacheco: TKO/KO -450; Decision +400
Draw: +2200
Maciej Sulecki: TKO/KO +1800; Decision +2200
These timings could change due to the length of the undercard fights.
