Eddie Hearn is the biggest boxing promoter in England. He’s put together some mega fights in his country and has aspirations on making more big fights happen. The next fight on the agenda is Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) vs fellow Englishmen WBA heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) at Wembley Stadium September 21st in London in front of an expected 96,000 fans, the highest crowd ever for a boxing event in the UK.

In a perfect world Joshua will defeat Dubois making him a 3-time heavyweight champion and next in line for the Fury vs Usyk winner. That’s the plan that Hearn has for Joshua. WBA-WBO-IBF champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) faces Fury in Saudi Arabia on Dec. 21 after he outpointed Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) in May.

From a money standpoint it would be great if Joshua passes his next test with Dubois because he’s a major star in the UK already and fans will run to see him fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. Anthony was never able agree to terms on a fight with Tyson Fury. Fight fans in the UK would love to finally see that fight happen. But both fighters have to take care of business in their next fights.

Confident as usual

“I know that if Joshua wins Sept. 21 the only fight he will want is the winner of Usyk vs. Fury II. Don’t get me wrong he has always wanted to fight Fury, he will do it, but when the decision is read out on Sept. 21 he will want the winner of that fight because he’s only one fight away from being undisputed himself.

“But if that could be Fury, to fight Fury for undisputed, it would be immense. If Usyk wins, he will want to fight Usyk. Ben Davidson has said to me if he fights Usyk he will knock him out. He had no game plan going into those Usyk fights.”

Here’s where things can get dicey for Hearn. Dubois is a very good young fighter that is also striving for the winner of Uysk vs. Fury. Preferably a rematch against Uysk who he dropped with a clean body shot that right on the belt but the referee ruled that shot a low blow which allowed Uysk to recover and regroup to pull out a unanimous decision. Joshua is going to have to bring it as the younger fighter is trying to make a name for himself as the next great champion from the UK.
