Promoter Eddie Hearn wants Diego Pacheco to fight Jaime Munguia after Munguia’s latest triumph over Maciej Sulecki. Hearn believes a fight between them will bring the fans out. It might take place inside the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles. But Munguia might need a big guarantee, which can be a problem for Hearn.
Hearn may look to put this fight on DAZN Pay-Per-View (PPV). It would ensure that expenses are covered. But Jaime Munguia may ask for a big payday. Hearn was hesitating to make a deal. There’s a chance for a $2.2 million payday for the fight. WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. demanded a unification boxing match IBF champion Boots Ennis. Hearn offered $1. 75 million but it was rejected.
The recent performance of Diego Pacheco against Sulecki was quite unconvincing. Pacheco needed some luck to get a knockout against Sulecki. Pacheco connected on a body shot in the sixth round, but the fight didn’t showcase the talent too good. Youth shouldn’t blind Hearn to Pacheco’s ability. There are other young fighters, including Osleys Iglesias and Christian Mbilli, who could overachieve. Hearn sees Pacheco’s potential but there needs to be more realistic expectations set for his role in the super middleweight division.
However, Hearn might not pick up the support from Top Rank, Munguia’s promoters. Because Canelo Alvarez defeated him in a recent match, he may need time to recover before getting in to fight with Pacheo. Moreover, if Eddie Hearn’s offer is considered low, getting the Top Rank fight will be tough to secure. His camp might want a different opponent for him.
Hearn suggested that Pacheco could be on the verge of being given the next shot at Canelo Alvarez or Edgar Berlanga in September 2025. As of now, Pacheco is not on par with other boxers such as Alvarez. Therefore, he might not be prepared for such a big match next year. Hearn also thinks a battle with him is perfect in Pacheco’s progress.
A match between Diego Pacheco and Jaime Munguia has its challenges. No specific issues have been noted. But financial constraints and securing an agreement from Munguia’s camp are significant challenges. Hearn says this fight can be a huge event. But it only will happen if both parties agree to terms.
