Junior welterweight contender Elvis Rodriguez (17-1-1, 13 KOs) has been in the news cycle lately and FightsATW has learned his next fight won’t be for a rumored title eliminator. According to Rodriguez’s manager, Benny Lieblein, he is currently scheduled to fight on March 29 against Yomar Alamo (22-3-1, 13 KOs). The venue and headliner information has not been formally announced, but Rodriguez will be returning to the ring on that date, according to Lieblein.

There has been an ongoing feud between former IBF junior welterweight champion Subriel Matias (21-2, 21 KOs)and Rodriguez, which stayed in the news cycle last year. Rodriguez was in line to face Matias before Liam Paro, but a deal could not be made. Instead, Matias faced Paro and lost his title. Months later, the IBF was looking to make a title eliminator matchup between Matias and Rodriguez, but rumors went around that the fight was turned down by Team Rodriguez. According to Lieblein, they were never offered the fight.

Jake Donovan from The Ring tweeted this earlier today “Told that IBF has issued invitations to teams for Subriel Matias and Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela, to accept offer to enter negotiations for final eliminator. Valenzuela back in mix after Elvis Rodriguez’ team passed on opportunity (mostly to spite Matias).” FightsATW reached out to Lieblein for a comment and he said there was “never an offer sent” to him and he was “never contacted by anyone” about that fight for his client Rodriguez.

Lieblein said he was offered four fighters (Yomar Alamo, Shinard Bunch, John Bauza & Branden Pizarro), none of whom were Matias. Lieblein would jump on X himself and say, “Please stop making things up. Subriel Mathias was Never brought to the table in recent months or even discussed. That being said, if they would have, I more than likely would have turned it down out of spite because he cost us so much money, time + rankings over the last 2 years.”

That said, Rodriguez will fight on a Top Rank card in March, and we will soon find out how he is ranked with the IBF after all of this talk about a fight being offered/not offered against Matias.
