Errol Spence Jr Gets A Title Shot
Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) will be making his return into the ring 15 months after his crushing TKO loss to Terrance Crawford. He will be facing newly crowned WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora  (21-1-1, 14 KOs) in Dallas. PBC’s will stream the fight on Prime Video PPV event. The fought could possibly be at AT&T Stadium but that isn’t confirmed yet.

This will be Spence first fight at 154 pounds, he has primarily fought at welterweight his whole career. Making weight at the 147 pound limit has become difficult for him in recent years. Fighting a rematch with Terrance Crawford became even more difficult because Crawford wanted to run the fight back at 147 as Spence was lobbying for 154. As the champion Crawford had the leverage and Spence eventually opt out of the rematch and got eye surgery.

Fundora upset Tim Tszyu on 11 days notice as Keith Thurman had to pull out of the fight. Everyone remembers how much blood was coming from Tszyu’s head  from a gas in the early rounds. That clearly effected him but he still kept fight. “The Towering Inferno.” utilized his 6’5 frame and 80 inch reach to his advantage as he boxed his way to a majority decision to capture the WBC belt.

The build up

Right after the fight was over, Spence made his way into the ring and called out Fundora. “It’s time to get it on. He got a pretty good height, but we’ll see. We’ll break him down like we always do.” This fight is going to be a great test for Spence, a impressive win will spring him right back to the top in the discussions for future big fights in the future and maybe another class with Terrance Crawford as well.
