On June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) will face Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) on a Premier Boxing Champions card streamed on Amazon Prime. Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title in his first fight since he stopped Ryan Garcia on April 22, 2023. Ahead of this title defence, Errol Spence Jr. has offered his thoughts on the fight and predicted the outcome.
“Tank” will take on Martin on a card that also sees an intriguing light heavyweight bout between David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) and Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) for the WBC interim light heavyweight belt. Martin will be the underdog for the fight, with DraftKings having him priced up at +450 with Davis the favourite priced up at -700. Martin is not a household name in the boxing world despite being unbeaten.
He is willing to sit in the pocket and trade and carries impressive power. He lets his hands go at speed – putting his punches together well. Davis is as versatile as they come in terms of fighting style. He’s a phenomenal counterpuncher and will look to exploit the slow offensive movement from his opponent. “Tank” has shown he carries that KO power to end a fight with one punch.
The Baltimore native will be eager to enhance his reputation while Martin will look to cause a shock and move on to other big fights.
Ahead of the June 15 bout, Errol Spence Jr. has offered his thoughts on the fight: “Tanks going to put up a fight. He’s a great fighter, but I feel like Frank’s definitely going to take it,” said Spence when speaking to Fight Hub TV.
Talking about the ability of Martin, Spence said: “He’s going to see the speed, he’s going to see the strength, he’s going to see the power that Frank brings.”
