Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) and Fabio Wardley (19-0, 18 KOs) are gearing up to fight it out for Parker’s interim WBO title. With an enticing follow-up fight in the books, the duo will leave no stone unturned in reminding everyone that they “belong” in the division.
The final weigh-in before their showdown on Saturday saw both fighters at their gargantuan best. While a size difference adds to the shock factor, it can also give a fighter a sense of (often false) security. In fact, the significantly bigger Parker is certain that his size is a premonition of his apparent victory on fight night.
“I’m heavy, I’m strong, and I’m ready to go. I’m serious about my work. I’m going to punch holes in him tomorrow and teach him a lesson. I’m going to fight fire with fire and get to him,” he said.
Parker tipped the scales at 262.4 pounds, nearly twenty pounds heavier than the undefeated Wardley, who came in at 242.7. This was even evident in how different the duo looked as they posed for pictures side by side. Parker certainly looked like a unit, thick, dense, and brawny. Wardley, on the other hand, looked sleeker yet strong, with the battle readiness of a man gearing up for the biggest test of his career.
The winner of the fight will face undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk early in 2026. And with a major eight-figure purse waiting for them in that fight, this fight ( Parker vs Wardley) is undoubtedly a stepping stone for one of them to seriously weigh their pockets next year.
With a life-changing fight at the end of the tunnel, Wardley is ready to put his heart and soul into his showdown against Parker.
“This means everything, all the work is done. Every step has been a step too far, they said. But I haven’t been beaten yet, and it won’t happen on Saturday. It’s not about me learning anything; it’s about everyone learning about me, that I belong at this level,” he said.
While Parker is at his confident best, Wardley is sure to remind everyone that he deserves to be at the division’s throne. With 18 of his 19 victories coming via explosive finishes, there is no denying that he knows how to let his fists do the talking.
“Joseph Parker, his team, and boxing fans will learn I am meant to be at the top of this division,” Wardley said. “Every opponent has been the one critics say will beat me. This is the one. He’s too quick, too fast, too experienced. But I haven’t been beaten yet, and nothing will change tomorrow night.”
