Fans Slam Paul After Tyson Pulls Out With Health Concerns – ‘Shameless, Protect Fighters’
Anthony Behar

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson has been postponed after Tyson pulled out due to a flare-up of his ulcer injury.

The two were meant to box on July 20 in an eight-round contest, with 14-ounce gloves in two-minute rounds. There were already worries over the fight due to the age gap. Tyson will be 58 when he enters the ring, while Paul will be 28. Tyson has not had a pro-fight since losing to Kevin McBride in 2005. His last fight in any form was a 2020 exhibition against Roy Jones Jr.

Paul has been the much more active. He knocked out Andre August and Ryan Bourland in his last two fights. Tyson first raised worries over his health after he needed medical help on his flight from Miami to Los Angeles on May 26. This meant it was delayed for two hours as Tyson received medical treatment.

Tyson’s team alleged he was fine, saying it was due to an ulcer problem, which had caused him to feel nauseous and dizzy. Tyson has been told to do “minimal light training over the next weeks.” This is a significant departure from what he was doing for the Paul fight. Tyson was training three times a day and imposed a ban of weed/sex to get himself in the best possible shape. The new date for the fight will be announced on July 7.

Paul vs. Tyson

“My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year,” Tyson said

The upcoming highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will unfortunately be postponed. During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks.

“Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level. The health and well-being of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself,” MVP

“Obviously, devastating news. I’m heartbroken. I’m speechless, gutted. We’ve been working so hard over here, everyone in this camp. I just feel bad for everyone involved in this event, the whole undercard. This was an opportunity ripped from all of us.

“I do value Mike’s health first and foremost. I love that guy and have so much respect for him. I want Mike to be healthy. He says he still is going to knock me out, and I bought myself some time, so Mike is still talking sh*t. Mike, if you still want to do this like you said behind close doors behind the scenes, thank you. You just need a little bit of time, so I’m ready whenever you are. This is too big of an opportunity. I think this fight is going to change the world,” Jake Paul revealed

Next Steps

This naturally begs the question: what could happen next. There will now be a bigger call on Tyson to not enter the ring. Boxing has shown it can be a cruel sport with the death of two boxers already happening this year. Boxer Ardi Ndembo had already died at the age of 27 after spending two weeks in a coma. Sherif Lawal also passed away after losing on his pro debut, with the death being announced once he was taken to hospital.

There may be calls on Jake to focus his attention elsewhere. His brother Logan Paul has already offered himself to fight Jake. That bout would no doubt do big numbers due to their sibling rivalry. There is also the possibility that Jake focuses on bigger opposition. He has already said that his aim is to become a world champion. Facing Tyson does not help him get closer to that, which is why he may need a bigger name. But for now, boxing fans clearly did not want to see the Tyson fight.
