Filip Hrgovic is bucking the trend on Moses Itauma.
The Croatian heavyweight contender said he does not share the boxing world's growing enthusiasm for the unbeaten British prospect, according to ESPN. "Not impressed," Hrgovic reportedly told the outlet when asked about Itauma, whose knockout power and activity have drawn comparisons to prime Mike Tyson from some corners of the sport.
Hrgovic's dismissal comes as the two heavyweights edge closer to a potential meeting. Itauma, still in his early twenties, has torn through his first eleven professional opponents and is widely viewed as one of the division's brightest young talents. Hrgovic, a former world title challenger, has seen that script before.
The Croatian holds a 19-2 record and has shared the ring with the likes of Daniel Dubois and Zhilei Zhang in recent years. His last outing ended in defeat, but he remains a live threat at the top end of the heavyweight rankings.
No date or venue has been confirmed for a Hrgovic-Itauma fight. Promoters are said to be working toward a summer slot.
