Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch won’t be at the Sphere as Eagles confirm September 19 show
Floyd Mayweather’s highly anticipated rematch with Manny Pacquiao won’t be taking place at the Sphere in Las Vegas after all, with the venue now booked by the Eagles for their residency show on that date.
Rumours had been circulating about the change, and it was officially confirmed when the Eagles added more dates to their run at the popular venue, including September 19.
Beyond that, hosting a fight at Sphere comes with massive financial demands – even Netflix would feel those costs. Plus, without any ties to a casino, it’s not exactly an attractive option for boxing promoters or betting firms.
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s long-discussed rematch is facing yet another venue change. It was already expected to move away from Sphere, and that’s now confirmed, with the Eagles taking over the date for their residency.
Sporting events rarely go there due to the costs involved. UFC 306 remains the only one so far, reportedly costing Dana White and Turki Alalshikh tens of millions to put together.
An industry insider explained it plainly: “It made no sense to put it at The Sphere – it’s not connected to a casino.”
Before getting back in the ring with Pacquiao, Mayweather has two exhibition bouts lined up. He was meant to face Mike Tyson last month in Africa, though that didn’t happen. However, he does have a June 27 fight scheduled against kickboxer Mike Zambidis in Athens, which is already being promoted and selling tickets.
