The undisputed flyweight queen Gabriela Fundora (16-0, 8 KOs) gave the people what she promised all week: a knockout victory.

On Saturday night, at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, CA, Fundora’s aggressive fighting style led to another knockout as she stopped her opponent, Marilyn Badillo (19-1-1, 3 KOs), in the seventh round of their fight. Fundora’s crowd-pleasing style had fans leaving the arena happy they got their pound of flesh.

In the opening round, Badillo was the busier of the two women as she used a ton of head movement to avoid being hit by Fundora’s downhill offense. On the other hand, Fundora was feinting quite a bit but not throwing too many punches so she could see what Badillo had in store for her.

Fundora wasted no time in the second round, establishing the lead right jab and following it with hard, straight left hands and left uppercuts. When Badillo attempted to hold, Fundora ripped eight punches to the body. In rounds three to six, Fundora’s downhill offense was becoming too much for Badillo as her face began to show the results of all the punches she had taken up to this point in the fight. In the seventh round, Fundora landed her 1-2 combination, and Badillo finally took a knee. Before she could get up, her corner asked for the fight to be stopped.

Fundora is slowly becoming a fighter in the women’s division, which fans of the sport want to tune in to watch.

Jorge Garcia Shocks The World

Junior welterweight Jorge Garcia (33-4, 26 KOs) was a huge 12-1 betting underdog, but that didn’t stop him from pulling out a gutsy, split decision victory over Charles Conwell (21-1, 16 KOs) in the co-main. The judges saw this one 115-113 for Garcia, 115-113 for Conwell, and 115-113 for Garcia, who shoots to the top of the list at 154.

In the opening round, Conwell was patient with his attack and was more concerned about establishing distance as his opponent was taller and had a longer reach. Garcia was busy with his left jab and tried to pin down Conwell but was unsuccessful as Conwell’s defense was too good. In the second round, Conwell appeared to find his distance after taking some clean right hands from Garcia. Conwell ripped left and right hooks to Garcia’s body, and the momentum quickly went to Conwell. Garcia rallied late in the round, but Conwell had already put in the work.

Garcia saw success throughout the third round, even if Conwell refused to acknowledge it had any effect on him by shaking his head. Garcia landed clean left hooks to the body, but Conwell would return with a four-punch combination of his own. It was a big round for Garcia. Conwell took back control of the fight in the fourth round as Garcia began to show signs of slowing down. There were rough moments where the referee had to warn both fighters, but outside of that, it was all Conwell.

In the fifth round, Garcia, showing a ton of heart, stayed in the pocket with Conwell and exchanged bombs. The first part of the round was all Conwell, while Garcia finished the round strongly. Round six belonged to Garcia, who was landing the cleaner, more effective punches. Conwell forgot about his left jab and was rushing in which allowed Garcia to work his combinations. Garcia continued to concentrate his attack on Conwell’s body as the left hook landed cleanly, forcing Conwell to reset his movements and punch sequence. Garcia was giving Conwell plenty to think about throughout the round.

Rounds eight and nine were all Garcia as Conwell could not make the appropriate adjustments. Conwell, sensing that he needed the championship rounds, turned up the level of aggressiveness in the tenth, and his straight right hand to the head of Garcia began to get through. Garcia took a breather and Conwell made the most out of that opportunity.

The 11th was a nip-and-tuck round as both fighters attempted to close the show. The final round saw Garcia outwork Conwell, who had a tough day at the office, to the final bell.

DAZN Undercards

Tristan Kalkreuth (15-1, 10 KOs) scored an underwhelming unanimous decision over Felix Valera (24-8, 20 KOs). The judges saw this one 99-91, 97-93, and 99-91 for Kalkreuth, who didn’t appear motivated in tonight’s fight.

Junior welterweight Ruslan Abdullaev (2-0, 1 KO), a decorated amateur pro, earned his second victory as he defeated Jino Rodrigo (13-5-2, 11 KOs) by unanimous decision. All three judges saw this one 80-71 for Abdullaev, a junior welterweight who will be moved quickly, according to Oscar De La Hoya.

In the DAZN opener, hot welterweight prospect Joel Iriarte (7-0, 7 KOs) made quick work of Marcos Jimenez(25-12, 17 KOs) as he scored a one-punch first-round knockout to earn his seventh consecutive knockout victory. After several exchanges, Iriarte landed a hard left hook, sending Jimenez crashing down. The referee began to count, but Jimenez’s corner threw in the towel, awarding Iriarte the knockout victory.

GBP YouTube Undercard Results

Billed as the main event for the YouTube stream portion of the fight card, Jorge Chavez (13-0, 8 KOs) & Brandon Douglas (13-1, 11 KOs) went to war and got the crowd going at the Frontwave Arena. Although all three judges saw this on 80-71 for Chavez, the fight was very competitive from rounds three to eight after Chavez scored a second-round knockdown by way of a left hook on the back foot. Douglas was game and even buzzed Chavez, but in the end, the cleaner and more effective work was from Chavez.

Former light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (21-2, 17 KOs) fought for the first time since his decision loss against David Benavidez in June. “The Nail” scored a third-round TKO over Anthony Hollaway (9-8-3, 7 KOs) in the night’s second fight. Early on, it was Gvozdyk simply finding his rhythm after a 10-month layoff. In the second round, he began to land the straight right hand, which opened things up for Gvozdyk. The third and final round of this fight saw Gvozdyk land a left hook, which sent Holloway down for the first knockdown of the fight. He beat the count, but then Gvozdyk went after him and landed a straight right hand, sending him down again. This time, when he got up, the referee saw he had enough and waived the fight off.

Samuel Torres (2-0, 1 KO) scored a first-round knockout over Marc Misiura (3-7-2, 1 KO) after his corner stopped the fight in between rounds. Torres was workin g Misiura throughout the opening round, and it seemed he was too much for him, leading the corner to stop the fight before things got too ugly.

Lightweight Dalis Kaleiopu (7-0, 5 KOs) scored a one-punch knockout over Jesus Ramon Perez (14-21-1, 8 KOs) in the first round of their fight to open the Fundora-Badillo fight card. Kaleiopu wasted no time and, halfway through the round, landed a straight right hand that sent Perez down. He tried to get up, but the corner waved it off before he could, which was a moot point as Perez was in no shape to make it to his feet.

Heavyweight Joshua Edwards (1-0, 1 KO) made an impressive pro debut by scoring a second-round knockout over Larry Gonzalez (0-1-1) in the second round of their fight. Golden Boy now has an American heavyweight, so seeing where he goes will be interesting. Keep an eye out for him.
