Anthony Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are piling the pressure on Tyson Fury to take a fight.
Fury announced his retirement in January after two losses to Oleksandr Uysk, stating he would only return for a third Usyk fight. The Gypsy King then backtracked on those comments, saying he was done with boxing. Joshua is looking for his next opponent, with Hearn confirming he will box in 2026 after having had elbow surgery. Joshua praised Joseph Parker for fighting anyone, while also hitting out at Fury. Joshua, who has been out of the ring for a year since his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois, is keen on Fury.
“I love it, I like to see it. AJ’s always a guy who has held his tongue. I think now as he comes to the back end of his career, he’s almost like, ‘why not?’ “He wants this fight. We want the fight, we’re ready to go, we’re ready to talk about it. This isn’t goading Tyson Fury, it’s just stating facts,” Hearn said
A fight between Joshua and Fury is the biggest British boxing event. Joshua, the Olympic gold medalist with the knockout power and popularity, represents one half of the rivalry. Fury, the charismatic and unpredictable “Gypsy King” with the exceptional boxing skills, represents the other. The stadium-filling star power of both men is immense.
This bout also offers a unique opportunity to cement their legacies. For Joshua, who is coming off a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois and a period of inactivity due to elbow surgery, a victory over Fury would be the ultimate act of redemption. For Fury, beating his last remaining domestic rival would put an exclamation point on a good career.
The financial scale of this fight makes it impossible to ignore. A showdown between Joshua and Fury would generate a staggering amount of money, shattering all previous UK boxing records for gate revenue and pay-per-view buys. And with fans having missed out on previous big fights, this is one that cannot slip by.
