Former world champion Gervonta Davis was taken into custody in Miami on Wednesday, roughly two weeks after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with a domestic violence investigation, according to a report first published by TMZ.

Davis’ arrest follows a two-week search involving the Miami Gardens Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities have not disclosed how Davis was ultimately located.

The 30-year-old boxer is facing charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping stemming from an alleged incident involving an ex-girlfriend at a Miami-area gentleman’s club, where the woman was employed as a waitress.

Allegations Detailed in October Lawsuit

Details of the incident were previously laid out in a civil lawsuit filed by the woman in October. According to the filing, Davis allegedly grabbed the woman by the hair and throat in a back room of the club before dragging her down a stairway and into a parking garage.

The woman, who reportedly dated Davis for approximately five months, is said to have escaped once they reached the garage and returned to her coworkers for safety. She sustained what were described as minor injuries.

Police have stated that surveillance footage corroborates the woman’s account of the incident.

The lawsuit further alleges that Davis made repeated death threats toward the woman during their relationship, including a September incident in which he allegedly texted her, “I’ll kill you,” while accusing her of infidelity. He is also accused of choking her in public at a restaurant on the same day.

Career Fallout Mounting

The allegations have already had significant professional consequences for Davis. An exhibition bout with Jake Paul reportedly collapsed following the lawsuit, costing Davis a potential eight-figure payday. Paul later pivoted to a bout with Anthony Joshua, while publicly condemning Davis in the aftermath.

Last week, Davis was also stripped of his WBA lightweight title, officially due to inactivity. He has competed just twice over the past 33 months, including a highly controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr., a fight marred by a widely criticized referee error that many believe cost Roach a victory.

Pattern of Prior Allegations

This is not the first time Davis has faced domestic violence allegations. In 2025, he was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge related to a separate ex-girlfriend, though the charge was later dropped after the alleged victim declined to prosecute.

A similar situation occurred in 2020. When Davis was arrested on domestic violence charges after allegedly grabbing another ex-girlfriend by the neck. That case also failed to proceed after the alleged victim stated she was not harmed.

Davis’ legal situation now casts further uncertainty over his future in boxing, as criminal proceedings move forward and promotional doors continue to close.
