Gervonta Davis has claimed that Jake Paul called off their fight due to being beaten up in sparring – not the legal battles that the YouTuber has claimed.
Davis and Paul were due to fight back in November on Netflix, but the event was called off at the last minute when a civil lawsuit was filed against the 30-year-old. Ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel filed suit in Miami-Dade County, Florida at the end of October, and the bout was later cancelled.
Instead, Paul is facing a much different and more dangerous task in two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on December 19. But Davis believes there is a different story as to why the original fight isn’t happening.
For the past few months since the fight was cancelled, Gervonta Davis has stayed in the shadows, dealing with his issues previously. But he today reactivated his X account to let fans in on his status, and declare what he feels is the real reason for the pull out.
“He was getting his a– beat in camp,” Davis said of Jake Paul in a tweet that has now disappeared with his account after being live for a few hours. “I was gonna do him bad… But everything happens for a reason that’s why I didn’t trip.”
He also addressed the allegations against him from the lawsuit, protesting his innocence by writing: “Shawty has a whole history going after men for money… It’s me so y’all believed it. Y’all couldn’t wait. More opportunities in da [sic] future though.”
Davis also aimed a swipe at Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, which he runs alongside former UFC COO Nakisa Bidarian. “MVP couldn’t uphold nothing,” he wrote. “Al [Haymon] had to come in to take over everything… MVP IS GARBAGE! Y’all run nothing at Netflix. Y’all are just workers.”
In a recent stream with influencers N3on and Adin Ross, Jake’s brother Logan Paul explained that the bout was called off given that Davis has a history beyond just this latest lawsuit.
There is no tomorrow.

“The problem is his repeated issues with women,” Logan noted, before Jake added that “he needs a good friend in this fight, we’re praying for him.”
