It’s fight week in Oceanside, California, as ProBox TV hosts an intriguing junior middleweight main event that will stream exclusively on its new paid subscription on YouTube. San Diego’s own Giovani Santillan (35-1, 18 KOs) will face former WBA champion Abass Baraou (17-2, 9 KOs) in a scheduled ten-round bout live from the Frontwave Arena.
The 34-year-old Santillan is on a three-fight win streak since being stopped by Brian Norman Jr. in May 2024. He is ranked #3 in the WBO for the title currently held by Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. This fight could lead to a title eliminator, as Xander Zayas is currently ranked #1 but has announced he will be moving up to middleweight, which will shake up the WBO rankings.
Baraou is coming off a split-decision loss to Zayas in January and will look to not only secure a bounce-back win over Santillan but also leapfrog him in the WBO rankings. Baraou is ranked #6, so this fight is critical for the 31-year-old from Aalen, Germany. Who will come out victorious?
Abass Baraou is the favorite at -400 and Giovani Santillan is the underdog at +300.
These timings could change due to the length of the undercard fights.
