Golden Boy Promotions have made some eye-catching deals recently, including the multi-year contract extension of Vergil Ortiz Jr. The promotional giants have now announced the signing of the undefeated super welterweight prospect Jordan “The Patriot” Panthen (9-0, 8 KOs).
Pathen is a top super welterweight prospect who had a successful amateur career, winning a USA National Championship and the National Golden Gloves before turning pro in the summer of 2022. Born in Hawaii but now fighting out of LA, training at the Brickhouse Boxing Gym. Trained by the respected trainer Julian Chua, he has shown his heavy hands since turning pro, which has seen him win eight of his nine fights by stoppage, with some impressive knockouts.
Reacting to the deal, Panthen explained his excitement: “I’m very excited to sign with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions,” said Panthen. “They have big plans to provide me with the best opportunities towards becoming The Next American Champion!”
Golden Boy and CEO Oscar De La Hoya revealed his high hopes for the Hawaiian native: “The super welterweight division is the hottest in all of boxing right now, and with the signing of Jordan Panthen, Golden Boy has added yet another blue-chip prospect to the mix,” said De La Hoya.
He added: “With 8 KOs in his 9 wins, an undefeated record and a growing fan base in Southern California, expect to see “The Patriot” appear often on Golden Boy cards going forward.”
Panthen is a come-forward fighter, who is adept at cutting off the ring, in a Golovkin-esque style, before attacking the body of his opponents. This attack style has been successful for the “The Patriot,” collecting three quick knockouts in 2024. A link-up with Golden Boy will enable Panthen to fight on the biggest stages and increase competition.
