Eddie Hearn criticized Ryan Garcia’s reaction to his failed VADA tests for Ostarine.

Garcia defeated Devin Haney via a majority decision on April 20 to pull off a massive upset, dropping him three times. The result could now be in doubt after two urine samples showed the banned substance. Garcia maintained he was innocent, saying he had been set up. He has lashed out at various people, including Victor Conte and Hearn. Garcia will test his B-sample on May 22.

If he tests positive, Garcia faces a fight to prove his innocence. Haney’s attorney has called for the New York State Athletic Commission to disqualify Garcia and give Haney the win. Garcia could also face a ban. Ryan took things personally, saying he would punish Hearn. But when they saw each other in Saudi Arabia for the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight, Garcia was friendly towards the promoter. His actions have rubbed Hearn up the wrong way.

Hearn On Garcia

“He was off again [Sunday] night on Twitter, like just the most stupid, childish behavior. But again, similar to some people, [he gets] face-to-face and it’s like, ‘You can come up, give me a cuddle, let’s have a photo.’ I don’t like [that]. I’m someone that will really do my best to avoid confrontation. Yeah? Peaceful life is always better. But sometimes this guy acts like an idiot, you know? And I like Ryan Garcia.

“I’ve said to him, I actually said to him in Saudi Arabia, ‘You do realize, if you actually listen to every interview that I give, I say I really hope that Ryan is innocent. I actually even give him the benefit of the doubt.’ But I even said to him face to face, ‘You can’t just say it’s a conspiracy theory.’ I said, ‘You’re blaming me for you testing positive twice.’ ‘Well, someone set me up,’ he said. Well, firstly, no, they didn’t. And secondly, it definitely wasn’t me. So just be careful what you say and let’s just try and deal with this situation,” Hearn said

Garcia’s Behavior

Garcia’s behavior has echoed that of Conor Benn’s reaction to his failed VADA tests for Clomiphene. The boxer reacted angrily to the results despite the banned substance showing up in his system. Clomiphene is known for being a masking agent that people can use to cover up other banned substances when coming off a cycle.

Benn first alleged that people had it in for him. He also claimed it was contamination. UKAD and the British Boxing Board of control have suspended him. He cannot fight in the UK until he clears his name. While Garcia has said he could break away and form his own boxing league, it is vital for the integrity of the sport that he clears his name. Boxing is a sport where athletes can die, which is why the testing results must be respected. Unless proven otherwise, boxers must take accountability for what they put in their system.
