Eight-time world champion Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns is set to make an appearance at the Eighth Annual Box Fan Expo on September 13.

According to reports, the event takes place from the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Expo has been timed to coincide with the undisputed super middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. This will mark Hearns’ fifth time attending the annual Expo. He will be joined by fellow boxing icons, including Shane Mosley, Erik Morales, and Marco Antonio Barrera. Fans attending the event will have an opportunity to meet him. Hearns will be there for a meet-and-greet, where he will sign gloves, photos, and other memorabilia.

“The Box Fan Expo is an annual fan experience event that coincides with some of the sports’ legendary, classic fights in Las Vegas, including Mayweather vs. Maidana II, Mayweather vs. Berto, Canelo vs. Chavez Jr., Canelo vs. GGG II, Canelo vs. Jacobs, Canelo vs. GGG III and Canelo vs Munguia.

“The Box Fan Expo is thrilled to open its doors to boxing fans from all over the world, as well to all major boxing companies, promoters and industry people during this Mexican holiday weekend. Centered in boxing’s long-time home – Las Vegas – this year’s Expo is a must-do for fight fans coming in for this legendary weekend, with dozens of professional fighters, promoters, and companies involved in the boxing industry,” Expo

Legacy

Hearns’ success in the ring was largely due to a physical build. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch, he was tall for the welterweight division, and his long arms gave him a reach advantage. This combined with his trainer Emanuel Steward’s guidance at the Kronk Gym, transformed him into one of the most devastating punchers in boxing history. For example, in 1984, he famously knocked out Roberto Duran—a fighter known for his iron chin and durability.

Another unique aspect of Hearns’s career was his incredible resilience. In his Marvin Hagler fight in 1985, Hearns broke his right hand in the first round after landing a massive shot on Hagler’s head. He continued to fight and land punches with the injured hand even if he came up short. In another instance, he fought 12 rounds against the undefeated Virgil Hill despite a hyperextended elbow he sustained during training and won a unanimous decision. Beyond his boxing career, Hearns also served as a Reserve Police Officer with the Detroit Police Department.
