Tyson Fury posted a clip on social media showing him hitting the pads with his father, John Fury, increasing speculation that he may be planning a return to the ring.
This latest development comes just months after Fury’s second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last December, a loss that prompted his retirement. Fury had been vocal about his displeasure with the decisions in both Usyk fights, believing he won both bouts. While he previously teased a trilogy bout with Usyk for April 2026, he later d ismissed the idea, stating that boxing is an “old man’s game.”
However, the new pad work video tells a different story. The training clip shows Fury letting his hands go. His usual trainer, SugarHill Steward was nowhere to be seen, raising suggestions that Fury may be resorting back to his usual defensive style, something he departed from during his time with SugarHil.
A comeback would be a gamble. If he were to lose again, not only would he cement Usyk’s place as the undisputed best heavyweight of their era, but he would also diminish his own status. His retirement in January allowed him to walk away from the sport with his head held high, having achieved more than most boxers. A return would be an admission that he couldn’t stay away.
And yet, it’s no secret that a third fight between Fury and Usyk would be a big bout. A return would offer Fury a chance to make another massive payday, adding to his already substantial wealth. Reports indicate he received over $100 million for the two Usyk bouts. There is also the chance to secure a similar payday for an Anthony Joshua fight.
A third loss would be catastrophic for Fury. Beyond the damage to his legacy, another defeat would raise serious questions about his longevity and whether he should have retired for good. The risk of him suffering a severe knockout or a bad beating would be far greater, leaving Fury to ponder his next steps.
