Former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) continues his comeback while sharing it on social media and recently showed interest in fighting former unified champion Andy Ruiz (35-2-1, 22 KOs).

It was a little over two weeks ago when Fury took to social media to announce his return to the ring, and quickly, names started spreading. Then Eye of the Tiger boss Camille Estephan told FightsATW that “it’s not far-fetched to say” that his guy Arslanbek Makhmudov could get a shot at Fury.

After posting more social media updates documenting his training regimen, Fury called out Ruiz via an Instagram story and tagged Ruiz’s account on Thursday. It didn’t take long for Ruiz to reply with a “Let’s go.” Sources tell FightsATW that this isn’t just a social media post, but that serious discussions are underway about a potential showdown between Fury and Ruiz. Sometimes negotiations break down over financials, so we’ll see if they can reach an agreement and make the fight happen.

Fury was last seen in December 2024 when he lost his second consecutive fight to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Fury then announced his retirement and took some time off from the sport. Now he is back and will look for a competitive fight before facing Anthony Joshua in September, as reported by several outlets and Joshua himself.

Regarding Ruiz, his last fight was in August 2024 against Jarrell Miller, which resulted in a majority draw. That night, Ruiz suffered a broken hand, and he stepped away from boxing activities for several months. Once cleared, Ruiz traveled to Italy and other parts of Europe, training and getting work. His return has been delayed, but he is now ready to face the biggest challenges once again.

Sources told FightsATW that Ruiz might soon be heading to Zuffa Boxing if the contract details get ironed out. That would definitely add more credibility to Zuffa Boxing as they keep building their roster with a mix of young fighters, former, and current champions. Usyk has also been rumored to be in talks with Zuffa Boxing, but nothing has been signed yet. That’s definitely something to watch, especially if the plan is to match Ruiz with Usyk in the future.

This Fury-Ruiz fight has legs and if it gets signed, based on the reaction and attention on social media, it looks like a fight that will attract the fans. Let’s see if this fight actually happens.

FightsATW will continue to monitor the story as it develops.
